Devras Plexi - frequent inspirational chore (Reissue)

In March, this year, we released the spellbinding “frequent inspirational chore” EP from Austin native, Devras Plexi. It’s a stimulating and prismatic trip through an intricate world of lucid glitch and electronica soundscapes.

Six months after the original release we’re proud to present a revamped version of “frequent inspirational chore” that adds another layer to its unique charm.

The new look album features three new additions and is rounded off by a stunning Lo-jacker remix.

Bricolage : Retcon (Phase One)

On the 31st of August we mark our third anniversary as a label. In those three years we’ve worked with some fantastic artists and released what, we’d like to think is, some unique and special music along the way. 

To celebrate entering into our fourth year we’ve managed to pool together a mammoth 20 track compilation containing a mixture of 10 artists from our current roster and 10 artists that are new to the label. 

Titled “Retcon”, the compilation will be released on Friday the 31st August and as usual will showcase a wide variety of styles from the electronic sphere.

We’re excited to start unveiling the artists involved and some of the sounds from the release this week. We start be unveiling 5 members of our current roster that are contributing to "Retcon".

DEVRAS PLEXI

The Austin native returns to the fold with latest track "Today's Communities Collapse" which will be officially released as part of "Retcon". Listen below.

FRAGILE X

Label head Fragile X has had a long period away from releasing his own productions over the course of 2018 so far but will reappear with a brand new drum n bass track titled "Res Ipsa Loquitur" on the compilation. You'll be able to hear more soon.

LOUI CLEGHORN
Loui Cleghorn has had a busy last year or so setting up his own label, Unstrung. But, ever the creative, he has continually pressed on with creating his own gleaming productions and has delivered us an epic track for our anniversary. "Burst Into Flames" will be revealed soon.

Loui previously released the aquatic tinged ambient house of "Waterworks" on Bricolage almost two years ago....

Random Access Radio : Bricolage (Label Showcase)

We're proud to unveil a collaboration with the influential online hub Random Access Radio in the form of our first mix for their eclectic musical community.

We took the opportunity to make a label showcase of sorts that covers the various spectrums of electronic music and in doing so spans the history of the label from the early days through to our most current releases. We're also excited to be able to reveal a few as yet unreleased tracks that will be released on Bricolage over the summer and autumn. You can get a pre-release listen to 'Limestone Phosphenes' from the the upcoming Supply Fi EP (30/4/18) alongside an acidic weapon from Arran Trax and a slice of hard hitting techno from Boom Merchant that drops as part of our first vinyl release later this year. In The Loop : Episode 19

In The Loop Episode 19 takes a look at what some of the artists we've released through the label have been upto recently.

First we turn our attention to serial beat maker, Lo-Jacker. His most recent uploads include a phenomenal remix of the HEALTH track "Crusher" that gets the complete Lo-Jacker make over. There's also new track "Infinite Latitude" with it's hypnotic beat and swirling pads and to round it off, the track "In Media Res" that was written for Piano Day 2017. Lo-Jacker "Live Stuff" (bc018)

Bricolage is proud to present "Live Stuff", the latest EP from Lo-Jacker. It's a release that gives an unique insight into the eclectic electronic world of Lo-Jacker. Four tracks, recorded in realtime at his home studio, that represent his adventures into a more expressive way of creating music. Tiring of what can be the sometimes tedious task of constant track editing, this live EP gave him the chance to redirect his energies into more spontaneous methods. It's a break from the norm and a change of approach to designing the ever evolving sounds of Lo-Jacker.

Lo-Jacker : "It became more about improvising and capturing important moments rather than spending hours and hours trying to force them"

Loui Cleghorn "Waterworks" (bc017)

Bricolage is proud to present the "Waterworks" EP from Loui Cleghorn. Two diverse and pristinely produced tracks full of translucent melodies amid a fusion of progressive synth work and layered percussion. Harmonies that provide splashes of colour weave in and out of carefully produced atmospherics to give a the listener an ever evolving experience. The EP comes backed up by two remixes of the title track. "Lo-Jacker" provides us with his take on things through his unique electronica style which he's managed to marry perfectly into the feel of the original and then "subsequent" flips the track on its head to give us a more experimental edge on things with his 'wrecked dub' version.

*Waterworks Remix Competition Update*

This post is an important update on our previous post about our remix competition for the "Waterworks" track by Loui Cleghorn.

Soundcloud have decided to close their groups from the 22nd of August onwards. That's this coming Monday. So all potential remix producers wishing to enter the competition should now upload your remix as standard on your own account followed by submitting the link to their track directly via PM to the Bricolage Soundcloud page and the label will repost the track on our own page and add it to a newly created remix competition playlist.

You can view the playlist and the current competition contenders below.



There are no other changes to the competition. There will be two remixes chosen to feature on the EP. One track chosen by label head Fragile X and one chosen by Loui Cleghorn himself. The competition will close (and the winners willbe notified) as originally scheduled on the 10th of September, two days before the EP is released.

Bricolage Showcase

Last week we posted about our friend and label supporter Mark Shields reaching 100 episodes of his Monday Graveyard radio show/podcast. A real milestone and a gem of a show to go with it. Episode 101 of the Monday Graveyard is also a very special episode as far as Bricolage is concerned. Mark very kindly gave us the opportunity to have a full hour to ourselves....

We're proud to be able to present a mix made up exclusively of music from our members. It's an hour that consists of just some of the unique music that we've released in our first 6 months. It manages to encapsulate what the label and collective is all about. A diverse selection spanning the electronic genres. The hour long show was curated and mixed by, label head, Fragile X and features some of his own music alongside Subsequent, Kure, Intl. Debris, Hiramatsu Toshiyuki, Slow Deep Breath, get-effect, The Next Commuter, Roy Or Bison?, Oscurito and H.ICH. There's ambient, vaporwave, some dub, shoegazed tinged electronics, glitch, drones, darkness, guitars and, of course, what better way to round it off then some techno.

In The Loop : Episode 11

Our first "In The Loop" episode of 2016 is a bumper edition with lots to catch up on from the tail end of 2015 and the start of 2016.

First up is a fresh track from International Debris."Glass Tower" is a cut from the upcoming album 'Curtain Moon'. It's a mixture of hard vaporwave and modern garage style drums. You can grab a free download of it on Soundcloud.



A fortnight or so ago, there was also "A Song" uploaded by Ross. Literally, a song. It's a 20 year old mash up type effort (circa 1996) that has a strange and certain appeal to it. Listen below.

Next up is Fragile X, to round off 2015, the Bricolage founder wrote and recorded a song inspired by synesthesia called "Theory of Colour". It's an experimental techno/electronic affair that was created in the space of one late December afternoon. Chunky rhythms, a huge melodic breakdown and Alan Watts samples are at the forefront.

On the subject of Fragile X.....any followers of his mixcloud account may well be aware of his long running Cult Zer0es mix series. The last 3 or 4 sessions have saw guest mixes from some of his musical friends and Volume 17 is no different. He's recruited fellow Bricolage label mate Lo-Jacker to provide a follow up of sorts to his inaugural Bricolage podcast from September 2015. It's another hour full of choice electronic cuts put together in the fun style of Lo-Jackers mixing techniques.

January saw Kure make a very important announcement or two....





"One Very Important Announcement" and "Dreamliner" are quality returns to SC for the Danish experimentalist. They offer a sneak preview into his vision of a "new Jet Age". Stay tuned for more.

Towards the end of last year, Glass Mammoth uploaded a few new tracks. One of the stand outs from them was the tribal chillout of "Zen". With it's rolling percussion and blissed out melodies providing a melancholic meditative landscape to get lost in.

As mentioned before on this blog, jazzdefector is a constant source of musical output and 2016 has started no differently for him. No less than 5 new instrumentals have made their way on to his Soundcloud this past month. My personal favourites are the the ambient canvas of "3 +hree" and the beautifully constructed "Einsteins Blackboard" which was inspired by a visit to the Museum of the History of Science.

Merrimans Ghost is another artist who has some seriously regular musical output. One of his latest offerings was the intriguing "Delirium Tremens". Full of wistful arpeggios and soft delay. It's a late night track to drift off with.

Earlier this week, our podcasts/mixes found a new home for storage and download. We're now using "hearthis" as our primary download source in place of podomatic. It's an easier interface for both uploaders and listeners to navigate through and there's no storage limit. As always, any podcasts and mixes will still originally be uploaded to our mixcloud account for streaming and two weeks after release the mixes will be available for free download on "hearthis". We're looking forward to giving you the opportunity to download and take our mixes on the go with you once more.

I spent a few hours uploading our previous podcasts from Lo-Jacker, Fragile X, Subsequent, get-effect and Oscurito on to the Bricolage account and also the first Volume 1 of our Headroom mixes by International Debris.

Fragile X - Amygdala (Lo-Jacker remix)

Bricolage is proud to present an unreleased exclusive as our first video of 2016. An outstanding Lo-Jacker remix of Fragile X's "Amygdala" that goes full flip and turns on the retro charm.


The remix was produced last autumn and it's been hard for us to keep it a secret for so long! But now we have a visual prepared for it we can share it with you.

It's the coming together of two artists and their distinctive sounds. Lo-Jacker has taken the original melodies on show in "Amydgala" , elaborated on them and added his own sounds to create a characteristic and bass heavy arrangement of the track. In contrast to the glitchier drums and quieter tones of the original, this version stomps along with punchier drums and percussive elements pronouncing it that good bit heavier whilst keeping the captivating and colourful edge of the bleeps and splashes of melody at the forefront.



The video is a perfect match, it's just as colourful as the track and sits with the music nicely as a slightly psychedelic nod to the neurons and powers of the brain.

In The Loop: Episode 4

In the 4th episode of In The Loop we catch up on what Lo-Jacker, H.ICH, Jazz Defector and Chairman Cow have been doing recently.



Lo-Jacker is currently working hard on a plethora of new material and 3 weeks ago he shared a new track of his that's currently in the works. "Lemon Cake" has that trademark Lo-Jacker feel. The chiming bells, the glitchy beats, quietly pulsing bass and mellow synth work. Time after time he comes up with crisp production, catchy melodies and hooks that I'll never tire of and "Lemon Cake" is another one to add to my list of LJ favourites. *insert pun about icing on the cake here*

Yesterday, H.ICH uploaded a clip from a forthcoming track of his titled "Xel. Us". Sometimes it can be hard to tell whether or not you're going to like a song from listening to a 2 minute long clip but not in this case. I was hooked after the first kick. It follows on from where "Holy Tresor" left off. Steady, metallic rhythms and no nonsense bass. A kinda eerie bleep that acts almost like a warning signal soon makes an appearance to add to the tension before the clip comes to an end. I, for one, am looking forward to hearing it in it's entirety.



Hugo (H.ICH) is also a member of the trio "Nord Church" who have a habit of blending electronica, elements of rock and trip hop into one big melting pot of sounds.

Jazz Defector has just shared two very short but poignant guitar soundscapes. A live feel coupled with his incomparable sense of melancholy result in "Sketches In Blue 1" and "Theme For An Imaginary Detective Romance Film". Two tracks that are the perfect way to showcase his talent on 6 strings.

Last month, Chairman Cow shared a long lost track that had been hibernating and trapped in the "untitled" territory for just under 3 years. The track in question was a collaboration recorded by Mr Cow and Fragile X in the winter of 2012. The quiet, delay soaked, guitars at the beginning and placed intermittently throughout were provided by Fragile X and the spoken word whispery samples, heavier tones and drums by Chairman Cow himself. By the time the conclusion of the track comes around both men have traded chunky guitar lines over a riotous wall of sound. This quiet/loud combination created a monster of a post-rock track which has now been christened " Living Beyond His Dreams". After many futile attempts at shortening the track it was decided that it was best left as a 10 minute opus.



Any long time Fragile X fans may recognise one of the guitar lines in the midst of the track. It was subsequently use as the intro to the track "We Stared At The Clouds Until They Burst" from his November 2013 EP "...And When I Opened My Eyes There Was A Thousand Lights".

"In The Loop" is a new section that we're starting up that will keep you up to date with what our members are up to inside and outside of the collective.

First things first, our debut podcast, that came courtesy of Lo-Jacker at the start of the month, is now available for a free download. It was previously only available for streaming at our mixcloud account. But as of today you can stream AND download it over at our new podomatic account. Our resident French techno wizard H.ICH has been busy creating more beats recently. A few weeks ago he dropped a new track of his "Holy Tresor" over on his soundcloud page. Anybody that knows of or has been to Tresor nightclub in Berlin will know what to expect from the title alone......ferocious, dark, relentless techno.



There's also a neat remix cut from A6DE that's been doing the rounds over the last few days.



Both tracks are more than worth a listen.

get-effect has also been quite busy recently. He's just released a new EP called "Trick Ladders" on Vanguardista Records. It's a journey into his take on the krautrock side of things. Think precision timing riffs and beats bathed in ambient synths. You can get a copy of the 5 track EP here.

Jazz Defector has always had a very prolific output and recent times have been no different than his usual standards. His soundcloud page is choc-a-bloc with some new ambient gems. The last 3 weeks has saw him release chapters 4, 5 and 6 of his "Lost In Silence" experiments among a few other newbies.

Bricolage Podcast: #1 : Lo-Jacker

For our first podcast we've got the inventive and unique Lo-Jacker to take you on a melodic journey laden with bleeps, glitches and beats. It's the perfect blend of his own tracks and some of his favourite artists over the course of 60 rhythmic minutes. A combination that, I'm sure you'll agree, works ridiculously well. "I'm delighted to have been asked to contribute the first mix for the Bricolage Collective podcast. It was a bit of a challenge since I hadn't done a DJ mix in 2 years. I've spent much of that time focusing on producing my own tracks. I was pleasantly surprised to find that many of them worked quite nicely within that sort of context so I took the liberty of chucking a load of them in. This is the result: a lot of stuff I've worked on over the past couple of years mixed with a ton of tunes by some of my favourite artits. Hope you enjoy it!"
