Bricolage Podcast #59 - See Blue
We've managed to procure a very special guest for our July podcast session. We've coaxed Matthew Duffield (of Sedition DJs fame) out of an extended mix hiatus.
Matthew is head of the, Barcelona based, See Blue Audio imprint. An ambient leaning label that focuses on "shade rather than light". The label is still in its infancy but is slowly growing and evolving its roster.
This mix, as you can imagine, is rooted in the ambient genre. Over the course of 80 mins we are taken on a journey that showcases the broad depth of the genre. The beats are few and far between but when they do make an appearance they make an impact. There's glistening synths, peaceful guitar soundscapes, layers of field recordings, ethereal vocals, segments of haunting world/ethnic music and it's all topped off with sounds from over a century ago via the year 1919. The session is cut together like a vintage mixtape for added appeal. One for the headphones.
As always, you can listen below or at our mixcloud.

This year, she's flipped the switch and went all in on the dark and deep techno. An hour full of bruising beats and wavy acid from some of the best producers out there.

Bricolage Podcast #52 : Adventsong
We round out our podcast series for 2019 with a new mix from the Manchester based producer, Adventsong. It's the perfect combination of some of his favourite tracks from this year alongside some older classics. There's always room for a little nostalgia. There's also room for shout outs to friends and collaborators along the way as we're taken on a multi layered journey that builds and builds using an assortment of moods and tones. Bricolage Podcast #49 : Ty Lumnus
Our September podcast sees us edge ever nearer to our landmark 50th episode and to bring us that step closer we're offering up a weird and wonderful selection from Ty Lumnus. This podcast sees the Glaswegian mix and compile his first ever podcast but, on listening in, you'd never guess. This mix gives an insight into what kinda of sounds and mood drive the producer and his own creative tendencies. If the name looks familiar then you may notice that it's an anagram of "Ly Tumnus"....
Ly Tumnus just featured on our '0141' compilation last week with his track 'X' from 2016. Ly Tumnus is an old skin, shedded and grown anew into Ty Lumnus. You can expect to hear a lot more under that name in the coming weeks with his debut EP "Decompression" releasing on the label on the 28th of this month. Previews and snippets coming soon. Until then, delve deep into this assemblage of consummate ambient tones and first rate electronica.

Bricolage Podcast #48 : Kill Them With Noise
Our August podcast is from the mind of local DJ and producer, Kill Them With Noise. You'll be hearing more from him in the coming months but more on that later. For the time being strap yourself in for a trip through some obscure and mysterious electronics. Just over an hour of sputtered rhythms and abstract sound palettes. Chaotic broken beats and hard edged experimental techno are at odds with each other as KTWN manages to squeeze 24 tracks into 67 minutes. It's a warped and mind bending circuit. Plug yourself in and enjoy the ride.
Kill Them With Noise will be appearing on our upcoming '0141' compilation at the end of the month, having contributed a fantastic experimental soundscape for inclusion on the release. We've also managed to nail him down for a standalone release in early 2020 under his "NoiseBlas" alter ego. We're looking forward to sharing his sounds with the world. There may even be one on show in this very mix....

Bricolage Podcast #43 - Minerva
Our March podcast is a special celebration of women in the electronic music scene and comes courtesy of Minerva. The Hungarian producer is using her platform, as one of our figureheads, on Bricolage to exhibit a mix of her female peers and influences and help raise awareness and support for gender parity in music and beyond.
"For me, IWD is always a very important day. It can sometimes feel like a constant uphill fight to be seen as an equal in the male dominated scenes of electronic music. However the balance is slowly shifting. The balance is key and we, as woman with creative drive, can and should expect to be given as much recognition for our contributions to the world of sound.
Fortunately, I have found a welcome home at Bricolage among some other very talented female musicians like Minimal_Drone*GRL, Bedless Bones, Sulevia and more. There, we are seen firstly and simply as producers and friends. There is no reference to male/female. We are all humans. Humans making music. Unfortunately, the music scenes I interact in my day to day life are sometimes not always as kind and welcoming. This landscape is slowly changing however. And ever year I feel big steps are being taken. This encourages me. I hope this continues and one day we have the equality we deserve."

Bricolage : Podcast Round Up For 2018
2018 was another eclectic year on the mix front. We've been privileged to both receive and share some outstanding musical journeys from a range of revered selectors and artists.
JANUARY
Loui Cleghorn (NYE Live Set)
We started off the year with an exclusive set from Loui Cleghorn. Recorded live at the Tribal Pulse NYE party in Glasgow, it sees him navigate through a bunch of his own material and take the listener on an absorbing trip.
FEBRUARY
Rain
The music obssessed Russian selector, Rain flirts effortlessly between ambient and DnB when it comes to mixes. He provided us a stunning DnB mix back in 2017 so decided to indulge his quieter side in 2018 and carefully build an ambient cloud to lay our head on. Soothing from first to last.
MARCH
futurendeavours
Vivid and mangled electronica from the enigmatic Glasgow duo. This session showcases some of their favourite influences with a few of their own releases on Bricolage. Also includes an exclusive play of an as-yet-still unreleased epic they cooked up especially for the mix.
APRIL
Leit Motif
We nudged into spring time with Leit Motif and a selection of deep dub techno, entrancing world electronica and crepuscular, gliding, ambient material.
MAY
Dark Fidelity HiFi (Live set for RSD 2018)
This was the chance to immerse yourself in the captivating and hypnotic sounds of the Dark Fidelity HiFi live experience. A short but sweet RSD 2018 live set recorded at 'Reel Around The Fountain' record store in Manchester.
JUNE
Arran Trax
A robust and rugged hour that combines Detroit Techno with surging electro and waves of acid from Arran Trax. Complex and exciting grooves from the Scottish producer.
JULY
Fragile X
Label boss Fragile X went down the effervescent route for this summer mix. Bubbling chimes, atmospheric cuts and warm, colourful soundscapes. One for the long summer nights.
AUGUST
Justin Case
Bricolage newcomer Justin Case brewed up an inventive concoction of sounds that would shine on a light on some of his biggest influences. An hour of twitchy and peculiar, cosmic electronica and celestial house music.
SEPTEMBER
Daniel Katinsky
A guest mix from Glasgow native Daniel Katinsky that drifts between murky and experimental structures and bold sound design. A true headphone journey full of fractured rhythms and dynamic noise.
OCTOBER
Sceadu
Dense and layered electro, techno and dub from the mysterious German. Futuristic ambience helps break up the chaos among the deep bass rumblings. We still believe that this is the only mix of 2018 that you'll be able to hear Dusty Springfield transition into Underground Resistance....
NOVEMBER
R.U.R.
A guest mix full of hard hitting techno with a dystopian twist. Full of heavy characteristics but never reaching the point of extremity. A danceable wall of sound, if you like.
DECEMBER
Amunraja
A sublime guest mix born of shamanism from Amunraja to round out the year. Warm bass, laid back tribal vibes and deep psydub that envelopes the listener. Put this on and let yourself drift into another dimension.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It wouldn't be a round up of mixes without mentioning our longform mix series, "Headroom". We only had three sessions this year. But they were three cultivated and stunning musical stories.
JANUARY
Kinoko
We had a special guest session from Hohm Productions resident, Kinoko, who pieced together a beautiful sound montage of ethereal ambient and misty deep house.
MARCH
Supply Fi
This session acted as a precursor of sorts to the tender and organic "...And We Become One With The Earth" EP. His two hour Headroom saw him bring together sounds from his friends and peers in a genre bending journe full of curious and dreamlike electronica.
NOVEMBER
Lying Cat
A grain and lo-fi affair from the Lying Cat. A tenebrous excursion through the slightly more disconcerted side of the music spectrum. It's awash with skewered beats, brittle textures and perfectly placed field recordings. It almost plays out like a film if you let it....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A massive thank you goes out to all the people who gave their time to us in 2018. Artists and listeners alike.

Bricolage Podcast #40 - Amunraja
We conclude 2018 with a sublime guest mix from Amunraja. The Shamanscape Records boss has provided a a showcase of what he calls 'sacred bass'.
Amunraja is born of Shamanism and Buddhism and explores the dimensions and frequential worlds that surround us.
This is a session brimming with warm bass tones, deep and layered melodies, psychedelic patterns, laid back tribal vibes and some truly crystalline production work. This is an hour of sounds that will envelope you and transport you to another dimension.

Bricolage Podcast #39 : R.U.R.
Our penultimate podcast of 2018 sees a guest mix from the android mind of R.U.R.
A hard hitting hour full of intensity and machine like precision. Advanced dystopian techno formations that layer into each other and build to crescendos that create an almost wall of sound. There's heavy characteristics all the way through but it never reaches the point of extremity, sitting all the while on a consistent raspy and thunderous foundation.
