Fragile X and Esef "Static Control" (bc055)
Bricolage are proud to present a new split EP from the heart of Glasgow's underground as Fragile X and Esef offer up four bruising slabs of bass driven techno and breakbeat. Both producers have dug deep into their respective sonic arsenals and retrieved the heavy artillery for this one.
Gritty, loose rhythms and gurgling basslines buzz around the opening track from Fragile X before alien bleeps appear and carry the track to it's conclusion. Next up, Esef, brings that trademark percussive punch and weighty bass movements that set the scene for a melodic explosion.
For the remixes, Esef tackles "Damage Control" head on and starts off with a dark and ominous tone that incorporates the original bassline into something that little bit more sinister before flicking the switch and dragging us feet first into an uplifting techno anthem. To round things off, Fragile X travels into the static with a hiss, before being joined by compact breakbeats, chopped up hi hats, warped bass samples and furious acid lines.
"Static Control" has been in the pipeline since late summer 2019 and we've been patiently sitting on it waiting to unleash it into the world. We hope you can agree that it's been worth the wait.
You can purchase "Static Control" direct from the link below or at our bandcamp.

Bricolage Podcast #55 - Minerva (IWD 2020 Special)
"I am Ariadne. I am Minerva. I am proud to be female."
Minerva's International Women's Day mix from last year was so good that we invited her back again this year to do it again. 2019's mix was a heady mix of experimental electronica, ambient, IDM and electro from her female peers and influences. This year, she's flipped the switch and went all in on the dark and deep techno. An hour full of bruising beats and wavy acid from some of the best producers out there.
As always you can listen below or over on mixcloud.

Urgula "Frequency Wars" (bc053)
For our second offering of 2020 we're delighted to be able to bring you the "Frequency Wars" EP from Urgula.
'Urgula' is a fresh alias from Glasgow producer John McLaren aka 'Kill Them With Noise'. KTWN is no nonsense, dance floor orientated techno. Things take a more focused and sound design approach with the Urgula alias. The sounds are still sharp and full of drive but come stripped back to their core and given that little bit more space to bounce off each other amid the frequency wars.
This new project puts emphasis on the the much lauded futuristic elements of techno. Spider web like percussion that continuously evolves against glitchy, almost industrial, backdrops with synth lines that stab at the surface and low bass movements that prop up the dystopian terrains. Mechanical music with a human side.
The EP come backed up with two remixes of "Battle For The Magnetic Fields". A genre bending effort from fellow Glaswegian 'Doxil' and a more contemplative but different take on things from Budapest native, 'Yasda'.
"Urgula’s heavy focus on sound design is present here, with a rich percussive structure aptly married with disconcerting hypnotic melodies."
You can read a stellar write up of the "Frequency Wars" EP over at Monument.

Lying Cat "Second Life" (bc052)
The return of the Lying Cat brings both a continuation and evolution of the sounds that were showcased on the evasive felines debut EP back in 2018. That warm and grainy fuzzy feeling remains embedded in the atmosphere, as does the curious nostalgic charm that each arrangement seems to possess.
The track structures are still unorthodox but this time they come supplemented with more depth, tone and character. There is a huge array of textures throughout 'Second Life' that are complimented by fractured patterns, moments of melodic bliss and electronic chaos that are all topped off with an exceptional aura of mystery.
"Second Life" is available to stream and DL below or at bandcamp

Urgula "Battle For The Magnetic Fields" Remix Competition
'Urgula' is the new side project of, Glaswegian, producer, John McLaren aka 'Kill Them With Noise'. In February 2020 we have the pleasure of releasing his debut EP under the 'Urgula' moniker on Bricolage. It's all set to feature three tracks of fractured, futuristic and glitchy techno.
Today we're launching a remix competition for one of those tracks, "Battle For The Magnetic Fields" and offering the chance to feature on the release.
The rules are really quite straight forward. Simply grab the stems from our bandcamp either here or below and have a go at remixing the track. Upload your finished remix to Soundcloud and message the Bricolage page with a link to your track where we will repost it and add it to the specially made remix playlist where we will be collating all the entries.
Entry is open to all and there will be two winning remixes selected to feature on the upcoming EP. One chosen by, label head, 'Fragile X' and one chosen by 'Urgula' himself. The competition officially starts today and the deadline for submissions will be midnight on Friday the 17th of January 2020. This will provide a time frame of almost 10 weeks for any potential submissions. Both remix winners will be notified on Sunday 19th of January and announced the day after. Good luck!

Ty Lumnus - Decompression (bc049)
"Decompression" is the sound of Glasgow artist Fraser Rowan starting anew. Previously releasing spaced out downtempo experimental soundscapes under the Ly Tumnus alias, this new venture as, Ty Lumnus, sees him turn up the tempo whilst keeping that experimental and dynamic edge.
It's a four track offering that stretches across the genre divide. Dusky tonal experiments, palpitating bass, analogue outbursts and sophisticated rhythms.
Constructed expertly with spiraling electronics that mingle with sonic decay to create a cosmic passage of varied textures and frequencies for the listener. Sit back, fire up the volume and ride the sound waves.
As always you can stream or download the EP from our bandcamp or below.
