Bricolage Podcast #59 - See Blue

We've managed to procure a very special guest for our July podcast session. We've coaxed Matthew Duffield (of Sedition DJs fame) out of an extended mix hiatus.

Matthew is head of the, Barcelona based, See Blue Audio imprint. An ambient leaning label that focuses on "shade rather than light". The label is still in its infancy but is slowly growing and evolving its roster.

This mix, as you can imagine, is rooted in the ambient genre. Over the course of 80 mins we are taken on a journey that showcases the broad depth of the genre. The beats are few and far between but when they do make an appearance they make an impact. There's glistening synths, peaceful guitar soundscapes, layers of field recordings, ethereal vocals, segments of haunting world/ethnic music and it's all topped off with sounds from over a century ago via the year 1919. The session is cut together like a vintage mixtape for added appeal. One for the headphones.

Dark Fidelity Hi Fi "Found" (bc046)

"Found" is the brand new album from Manchester mastermind Rick Jones aka Dark Fidelity Hi Fi.

Thirteen glistening tracks recorded over a four month period of hyper creativity with some guests and friends helping to fill in the pieces of the musical puzzle. It's a thorough and enigmatic voyage that incorporates elements of ambient, glitch, dub, trip hop, IDM and breaks into a textural and hypnotic labyrinth.

This is an album that will provide new sounds with every listen.

Dark Fidelity Hi Fi "Gentle Static Flow" (bc045)

In anticipation of "Found", the brand new studio album from Dark Fidelity Hi Fi, we bring you a reissue release of the Manchester wizards 2018 album, 'Gentle Static Flow'.

A true journey into the glitchier side of ambient that's complimented with trip hop vibes and meticulous sampling methods. DFHF has an old school approach to track structures that hark back to the glory days of mid to late 90's IDM. Making for a warm, nostalgic and engaging outcome.

Originally released in July last year we've repackaged the digital version with some bonus tracks including the never before heard "Pushing Ratios".

We've also managed to get our hands on 20 copies of the now long sold out original CD for a very limited edition run on Bricolage. The CD contains the full original release and comes with an instant digital download that includes the bonus tracks.

The new DFHF album "Found" is released 5th of July on Bricolage.

We celebrate the summer solstice with a crisp new single from Leit Motif.

'Bloom' is a grandiose affair that perfectly encapsulates the daylight theme with its wandering ambient intro full of sporadic notes that lead into welcoming beams of light. Stimulating drum work and radiant synths take over as the track reaches its pinnacle in a haze of warm sounds.

At just over 14 minutes long it's a true epic that is intended to play out as a musical journey that bleeds sunrise into sunset....

It's raining here in Glasgow as we upload our June session. Its another clammy but wet night. That's nothing new for this part of the world. It's probably going to rain for at least 50% of summer. It usually does here.

Bricolage Podcast #31 : futurendeavours

Our March session see Glasgow duo, futurendeavours, return to the label for podcast duties. Their first mix from August 2016 was a strange brew of mangled electronics that veered down various stylistic paths. This new session maintains those vivid and hybrid electronica values but with a more laidback approach and downtempo side seeping in towards the finale. Their monster ‘Yautja Blood’ release from January is also featured here alongside their 2017 collaboration with Figurate, ‘Pale Blue Dot’.
