Fragile X and Esef "Static Control" (bc055)

Bricolage are proud to present a new split EP from the heart of Glasgow's underground as Fragile X and Esef offer up four bruising slabs of  bass driven techno and breakbeat. Both producers have dug deep into their respective sonic arsenals and retrieved the heavy artillery for this one.

Gritty, loose rhythms and gurgling basslines buzz around the opening track from Fragile X before alien bleeps appear and carry the track to it's conclusion. Next up, Esef, brings that trademark percussive punch and weighty bass movements that set the scene for a melodic explosion.

For the remixes, Esef tackles "Damage Control" head on and starts off with a dark and ominous tone that incorporates the original bassline into something that little bit more sinister before flicking the switch and dragging us feet first into an uplifting techno anthem.  To round things off, Fragile X travels into the static with a hiss, before being joined by compact breakbeats,  chopped up hi hats, warped bass samples and furious acid lines.

"Static Control" has been in the pipeline since late summer 2019 and we've been patiently sitting on it waiting to unleash it into the world. We hope you can agree that it's been worth the wait.

You can purchase "Static Control" direct from the link below or at our bandcamp.

0141 (bc048)

Today we celebrated completing our fourth year as a label. It's been a fulfilling and creative 48 months. To mark this years anniversary we decided to bring things back closer to home and have our annual compilation exclusively feature Glasgow artists. We wanted the sounds of the city. The sounds of home.

The result is a diverse collection of electronic music from Glasgow's underbelly. We've called on some label stalwarts to provide us with sounds and also opened up our doors to some new faces. It's a fresh outlook at what's bubbling under the surface and away from the nightclubs and concrete jungle.

There's ambient/drone bliss, haunting pianos and soundscapes, experimental sound collages, challenging noise material, dreamy electronica, acid tinged techno, wonky house, cinematic synthwave. Something for everyone.

We're massively proud of this release and think it paints a beautifully distinct musical picture of the place we call home. It's our homage to our "Dear Green Place".

All revenue generated from the 0141 compilation will be donated to the ICU nursing staff at the Golden Jubilee Hospital as a token of gratitude for the quality of attention and support they provide patients and families in their care.

You can stream/download "0141" below or at our bandcamp.

"Retcon" (bc038)

“Retcon” is our most expansive and adventurous project to date. A mammoth twenty track compilation to celebrate 3 years as a label.

On this release we bring you new sounds from some Bricolage stalwarts and regulars plus creations from a collection of new artists that we’ve welcomed to the roster.

The Bricolage outlook has always remained the same for our VA albums and, just like all our previous compilations, there’s music from all over the electronic spectrum and across the world on “Retcon”. No stone is left unturned. No sound unplayed.

Available for stream and download at the links below or at our bandcamp.

I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all the artists and friends associated with Bricolage for their support and patience in the build up to the “Retcon” release. Due to unforeseen personal reasons, and a very difficult summer, this album almost didn’t happen. The support of the aforementioned people gave me the strength to ensure “Retcon” was given the release I feel it deserved and for that I’m very thankful. The album has proved to be somewhat of a beacon of light for me personally and has proved to be a worthwhile commitment. I hope you feel the same. (John / Fragile X)

Bricolage : Retcon (Phase Four)

On the 31st of August we mark our third anniversary as a label. In those three years we’ve worked with some fantastic artists and released what, we’d like to think is, some unique and special music along the way.

To celebrate entering into our fourth year we’ve managed to pool together a mammoth 20 track compilation containing a mixture of 10 artists from our current roster and 10 artists that are new to the label.

Titled “Retcon”, the compilation will be released on Friday the 31st August and as usual will showcase a wide variety of styles from the electronic sphere.

Today, we introduce you to the last 5 artists that will make up the compilation. All 5 of whom are new additions to the Bricolage roster.

EQUAL PARTS

"Equal Parts" is a local producer based in Glasgow, His ambient and experimental works consist of sampled acoustic sounds and a blend of field recordings that make for an ultimately organic end product. His absolutely stunning track "People Find Time" acts as the opening track on the new "Retcon" album. Listen in below.

SCEADU

Not much is known about the mysterious Sceadu project. We can tell you that it translates as either 'shadow' or 'protection' in Germanic which may give some hint as to the location of the enigmatic producer that has so far shown they're capable of all manners of genres from dark ambient to fluttering electronica and the melodic house of "Multiverse". That very track features on our anniversary compilation. Hear it now in the link underneath.

CREST OF THE SYNDICATE

From deepest, darkest Gloucestershire comes "Crest of the Syndicate" aka Rob Adams.

His music is inspired not only from his home county, but also from the British/Psychedelic/90's electronic scenes. He manages to stay true to those influences and uses them to create his own unique soundscapes with a wide array of hybrid styles that mark him out as one of a kind.

His track "Abbots" will feature on "Retcon" and will also be included on a future EP titled, "Interiors", that will be released on the 'Bad Bat Records' label.

ESEF

"Esef" is the alias of Scott Ferguson. A native of Glasgow with an insatiable appetite for house and techno that has seen him consistently blow the roof off various warehouses and parties around the city with his DJ sets over the last few years. Somewhat reserved on the release front until recent times, 2017 saw him release on both the Ibiza based Sonika imprint and Maintain Replay Records in Portugal. He's keeping the ball rolling with a contribution to Bricolage for "Retcon". His track "Dear Grey Place" is a prime example of some of the hypnotising music he's waiting to set free on the electronic music world as he crafts away at sculpting his sound. "Dear Grey Place" will be unleashed in due time. Until then be sure to check out his last offering, "The Resistance" EP.

MINIMAL_DRONE*GRL

Born and raised in Burnaby, British Columbia. She's a blogger, world traveler and music enthusiast.  Even though, she's relatively new to music production, she has spent many years dabbling in the studio and tentatively releasing her most recent creations under the "Minimal_Drone*GRL" moniker. The music is experimental at the core, exploring nature through audio storytelling and celestial soundcapes that incorporate samples and field recordings into their being.

She has together an epic closing track called "Bifurcated Worlds" for the upcoming "Retcon" album. More on that soon. For now, check out a track from spring this year...

Bricolage Podcast #22 : Esef

Our June podcast is the first in our guest sessions mixes and comes from Glaswegian producer and local stalwart, Esef. He brings with him a tonne of mixing experience due to his monthly barn burning residency spot in Flat 0/1 and his role as the renowned after party starter for the Glasgow based label, Tribal Pulse. As anybody who's witnessed Esef in the flesh will testify he provides a relentless energy that coarses through his sets. A prime selector of the highest order, his ability to keep the pace flowing is one of his greatest weapons behind the decks. Here, on his Bricolage podcast, he does just that and then some. It's a groove laden hour with a deluge of chunky basslines, direct, no nonsense rhythms and an abundance of prominent melodic sequences that merge as one throughout. Throw in his penchant for emotive pads into the equation and you've got a mix that keeps your ears and your feet happy.

You can stream this months mix below or over at our Mixcloud.

Summer 2017

If you keep up to date with our social media accounts then you'll know that earlier this week we said that we'd have a few announcements coming this weekend regarding many aspects of a creative summer here at Bricolage. There's new music, guest mixes, a remix competition and a very big collaborative release coming at the end of summer.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First off, we're proud to announce that, after four successful Various Artists compilations, we're officially moving onto our fifth edition of the series with VA5 penciled in for official release on the 12th of June. Once again, we've rounded up a collection of established and creative producers from around the globe. All of them with their own unique sounds and creations to bring to the table. The latest compilation release will be featuring American electronic wizard Belial Pelegrim, Finnish downtempo specialist Sect-ion, the mysterious Suncastle, Edinburgh producer All Buttons In, Glaswegian experimental musician No Arrival and the exceptional work of Devras Plexi to name but a few. It's safe to say that we have another very eclectic Various Artists album coming your way next month. Stay tuned for the standard introduction and bio posts starting on our blog next week, as we welcome the new faces to the Bricolage family. As always, you'll get to learn a little bit more about the people behind the sounds.

To have a listen to the previous VA compilations head to our bandcamp page where you'll find the releases alongside the rest of our back catalogue.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ever since the inception of Bricolage in 2015 we've ran our monthly podcasts and bi-monthly Headroom mix series to great effect over on Mixcloud. Our artists have consistently provided listening experiences that span across every spectrum of the electronic genre.

For June, we've managed to pull off a coup in getting some one off mixes from some very special guests. Friend of the label, Esef, takes over our podcast for the month. His monthly residents slot, alongside Loui Cleghorn, in Glasgows Flat 0/1 venue is known for it's sweat inducing mayhem and the boundless energy provided by the precise and remarkable tune selection on show.

As someone with a broad range of influences and tastes, Friday night club sets and after party marathons are just the tip of the iceberg with Esef though. A few years back he fused together ever evolving moods of dub, ambient sounds and house music for the very first guest session for the Fragile X "Cult Zer0es" mix series. So who knows what we're in for next month. Either way it's going to be a fun ride.

Be sure to check out his Return To The Cities EP over on soundcloud.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our second guest mix next month sees Glasgow based powerhouse, Boom Merchant, take the wheel for the latest episode of our Headroom mix series. He's an astonishingly well established all rounder with an unwavering dedication to his craft in terms of both DJing and production. Known just as much for carving his own brand of house and techno as he is for his ability to hold club goers attention from start to finish with his cosmic sets at his very own Tribal Pulse club night. With an extensive and meticulously assembled record collection to choose from we should be in for a huge treat come June. Have a listen to a guest mix for Proton Radio below alongside the latest Boom Merchant release, "Haka".

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last summer we ran a remix competition for Loui Cleghorn's "Waterworks" track, where the two winning remixes got to feature on the title tracks EP.. This summer we're back again with another remix competition, this time for Oscurito. He releases his second EP, "Eastern Philosophy", on Bricolage this July and next Saturday we'll be officially launching the competition for his new track "Find Your Centre". Stay tuned for remix stems and more info coming soon.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last but definitely not least, to celebrate Bricolage turning two years old in August we've lined up a very special collaborative project.

All of our releases so far have been digital only but thanks to the help of Rick at Dark Fidelity Hifi we've managed to secure a physical release for what should be one of our most ambitious projects to date. A CD run of 200 copies is in the pipeline and if it proves to be a success we'll be looking at more physical releases down the road whether it's CD, vinyl or cassette.

For the August release, we've pooled together an assortment of producers from a bunch of our previous releases over the past 20 odd months and paired them together to collaborate and come up with a track between them for the album. So far we have around 14 musicians on board, with many paired off and already in the early process of production. We're currently still looking for another 6 or 8 names to round off the production team and then it's all systems go.

More details on the physical release as they arrive. When we know, you'll know.
