In The Loop : Episode 35
Our latest episode of "In The Loop" is a look back at mixes and articles regarding the label from the last couple of months.
First off, a look back at a special guest mix. Back in August we did a special all label guest mix for Jilk on their monthly show on Threads Radio. The hour long session features a mixed selection of electronics from the label including some previews from upcoming releases.
The guest mix starts around the 30 minute mark.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Back in September we had a wee blether with the wonderful souls at I Heart Noise as part of their "Indie Roundtable" feature. We discussed things like label direction, the challenges faced in the independent music sphere, our views on streaming services and much more. You can read the whole interview in full here.
Be sure to check out our 2018 Retrospective Mix for IHN below too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bricolage label head, Fragile X, also recently sat down with Ste Knight at The Waveform Transmitter for a chat about label life, the Glasgow music scene and the process of mixing which in turn leads to an exclusive hour long mix full of lush ambient, IDM, 90s drum n bass and an unreleased Fragile X track. There's also a lovely track by track review of our recent "0141" compilation album. You can catch the full article here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back to Threads Radio and the recent "Faster Than Transmission" episode that features Justin Case '#Ulysses' from his recent split EP with Devras Plexi, "Lotus Eaters".
Sticking with the same EP....
Night Swim Radio recently featured the Devras Plexi track "Westrive" in their weekly "Dive" show.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ly Tumnus and Broken Form were featured in the recent Gated Canal Community Radio Show at Reform Radio.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DARK FIDELITY HI FI
Another gorgeous ambient and glitch infused story from the esteemed Manchester producer with a sound of all his own.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MINERVA
A peak inside the brain of Minerva. The Hungarian artist has once again got in touch with her more experimental side. Expect acid, dub, techno and all sorts of chaos.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FIGURATE
Delicate and downtempo, aquatic laced, IDM sounds.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BELIAL PELEGRIM
Icy cinematic tones and a constant dreamlike progressive nature as "Baked Alaska" evolves and grows.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BLUE NOTES
A locked in hip hop style groove with broody funk elements.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
YASDA
We'll just leave this here... "Sputnik" is Russian word that means "fellow traveler". The title reflects to the thankful feeling of having a partner next to you who shares similar values, phylosophy and attitude to life. Things that connect you together, and create a foundation of mutual responsibility, its essence, the deepest and holistic view about the quality of everyday life. A person that respects you and has the curiousity and passion to escort you on your way wherever it leads to.

In The Loop : Episode 32
ITL EP 32 features some new sounds from our alumni and roster.....
EQUAL PARTS
A short but sweet dollop of ambience from the Glaswegian. Subtle bass, clicks n cuts and interesting sound design layers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SCEADU
A four to the floor hybrid that takes on the dubbier side of techno infused with house sensibilities from the man in the shadows, Sceadu. We have the debut EP from the Berlin based producer dropping next month on Bricolage. He's all set to showcase his take on what the future sounds like....
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MUTE BRANCHES
"War Tundra" has that signature Mute Branches tone flowing throughout its short duration. An assembly of strange and creaking timbres that all fit together perfectly into a vivid experimental soundscape.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SULEVIA
The work of Sulevia stands alone in the electronic field. "Passion" is no different. The Austrian producer has created possibly her finest work yet. Undefinable music that flirts with bass music, trip hop, world music and techno. Peculiar chord progressions, faint voices, drifting pads and gristly beats.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ENOFA
Enofa (fka International Debris) has a tremendous back catalogue full of all sorts of engaging material (under many guises) from ambient to vaporwave and everything else in between. Here on new release "Melkur" the UK producer takes a trip through the forest....

In The Loop : Episode 31
Our latest episode once again of In The Loop lends an ear to what a few artists from our roster have been upto recently....
CREST OF THE SYNDICATE
Crisp drums paired with intricate and soft melodies that drift by on a cloud of floating synths on "Daydreaming". A wonderful summer tinged track to brighten up the dark winter nights.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
JUSTIN CASE
Patience is key on this new track from Justin Case. The ambient progression and slow build up pays off as "Ayr" gradually morphs in and out of acid basslines, IDM sensibilities and broken beat rhythms that are becoming an integral part of the maverick producers arsenal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ALL BUTTONS IN
"Polara 147" is a slice of dub infused glitch from the ever prolific, ABI. Industrial undertones and menacing beats that collapse into an ambient interlude before resurfacing....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COLAB
"Under The Bridge" starts with gentle keys before some field recordings glide into view and create space for some atmospheric synth work that create a serene mood dripping with that nostalgia element that Colab has down to a tee.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GREVUSANJL
"Bruno's Ghost" is a haunting piece of cinematic electronica. A tale of two abstract styles coming together as one. Part serenading tones and part twisted bass and marauding percs. A great spectre like combination.

"Each track is its own unique avenue of electronic music, covering a massive breadth and depth of the unexplored corners of this genre."

In The Loop: Episode 27
Our latest edition of In The Loop casts an eye (and ear) on the recent productions of another selection of producers from the roster.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ALL BUTTONS IN
Some tense and moody experimental and industrial tinged electronica that clicks, growls and pulses...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MUTE BRANCHES
"Obsolete Waterway" and "Creaky Nowhere BGM" have that signature Mute Branches lo-fi aesthetic. Drifting ambient soundscapes and maybe even a NES sample...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LO-JACKER
Melody is always the main ingredient of Lo-Jackers creations and "Aquarius" is no different. Chimes, bleeps, warm bass and delightful drum work.

In The Loop : Episode 26
It's been a while since our last ITL so we're starting off February with a new episode that takes a look at what a few artists on the roster have been up to recently.
THE OSCILLOSCOPE
Some "new" old material has surfaced on The Oscilloscope page as the Swiss based producer changes pace from his usual acid sound and revisits a gentler sound with some ambient material. There's plans for a conceptual release in the works so stay tuned to his account for more details soon.
-------------------------------------------------------------
BLUE NOTES
Fresh from his Tetrahedron album release on Bricolage at the end of last year, the young Glaswegian has kept his foot on the production pedal and continued to provide some excellent tracks for his followers. The latest offering being "Mnemonics". An atmospheric piece with some class ping pong style percussion littered throughout.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUBSEQUENT
"Revival of Interest" is a work in progress from the Dutch musician that is driven along by a strange, bubbling, melody, warped vocal, crisp, clean beats and a rumbling, sparse bassline.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BELIAL PELEGRIM
The ever prolific Californian is always at the forefront of consistency and never disappoints with his eclectic skills. Newest track "And The Sun Went Out In The Sky" is a prime example of his ability to carve out soaring ambient soundscapes alongside a tight backbone of experimental elements.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUNCASTLE
"Deep Archer" is the first track from an upcoming Suncastle LP on Triplicate Records. . It's a warm breeze of slightly wonky electronica. Upbeat basslines and fluttering melodies supply the depth in a superb all rounder that gives an insight what to expect when the release comes around. Free DL so no excuses not to dig in.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ARRAN TRAX
To round off the episode we have a sprawling acid-electro hybrid gem from Arran Trax. Building off the base of an almost tribal rhythm it slowly grows and grows into a monster of a tune that never sits still. There's a sweet melodic break halfway through that pops up to say hello before it gives way to the return of sonic chaos. "Morgenlicht" is up there with my own personal favourites from the, Hamburg based, Scottish producer and I'm delighted to reveal that we've started dialogue on a Bricolage EP from the man himself over summer. Expect more acid....

In The Loop : Episode 22
Episode 22 of In The Loop takes a look at what the 13 artists from our most recent compilation (VOL 5) have been upto recently. We'll work our through the tracklist in order so without further ado....
colab
Mikael Hansson aka colab has managed to create his own distinctive style over the years and continually sculpts small ambient/glitch universes at every turn. His latest offering "kids" is no different. There's an air of nostalgia that flows through the dream like nature of the track.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Devras Plexi
A producer that refuses to be tied down to any specific genre. The sounds of Devras Plexi map themselves out over landscapes of beats, alien sounds and a whole body of textured melodies. There's always LOTS going on but never too much that it becomes a jumble. Having that skill in terms of production can be all to rare these days. His latest SC upload "greenYellowGlow" shows off that technique perfectly.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Black Lupus
There's been nothing new from the German producer since our compilation release date but we can still take a look back at a track from the start of 2017. "Illumic Curves" is a track that we were potentially looking to release before settling on his more DnB themed "Fractal Particles" for Volume 5. This track has a unique feel and time signature to it then draws you into an almost psychedelic realm.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arran Trax
The Hamburg based Scottish producer has released a fair amount of danceable tracks over the past month or so. "Journey To A Better Future" is something a little bit different. It's still danceable, it's still got the trademark AT spacey synths and pingy drums but the message behind it is a little different. The track was made with a certain mindset....... "I had in mind the dangerous journeys so many people have made to Europe fleeing war, persecution & poverty. Maybe someday the whole of mankind will have to leave this planet in search of a new home too."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sect-ion
"Angel of Life" sees the Finnish producer let his guitar skills come to the fore as he mesmerises with some beautiful tones before letting the sounds drift off into a melancholic wonderland full of The Cure-esque basslines and catchy lead lines.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
/cave
The French sound designer has brewed up a slow burning fusion of electro, house and techno for his newest creation. A perfectly executed, reverb soaked, sound collage of micro beats and ping pong basslines that dance in and around each other.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blue Notes
The track "Shadowlands", from Blue Notes, has an eerie and spooky vibe floating throughout. Church like synth notes stab through the piece and build up tension before dashes of acid slide their way into the equation and add to the atmosphere. Dark electronica at it's purest.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Belial Pelegrim
It's sometimes hard to keep on top of the phenomenal output of this supremely talented producer and given the quality and quantity of his releases it's even harder to pick a track to share in here. We've gone for "Tetrahedral Kites" due to it's insane sound detail and remarkably fresh big beat feel. A true hybrid of electronic music. Think of a tone, it's probably in there. Think of an instrument, it's probably in there. The term "braindance" was coined for these kinda tracks.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Moscow Machina
Every few weeks a new production falls of the Moscow Machina production line and onto Soundcloud. The latest noise coming from the studio is "Taboo". It's a hypnotic, warm, acid based number with effective percussion leading the way for an overlay of trippy sounds.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pedraw
Clearly an advocate of the raw, lo-fi sound, Pedraw's latest track sees him stick to his guns. Gravelly , understated perc work acts as the backbone for a solid groove that worms its way into your ears.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No Arrival
"Solution" from No Arrival starts off as a wonky ambient soundscape before traversing into a rapid fire barrage of drums complimented and acid tinged bass. Throw in the fascinating amient noises that linger over the top of the track and you've got anther unique electronic track from a very unique producer. Personally, we think this guy is really one to watch for.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All Button In
"Room 13" sounds a tad unsettling. It is. But in the best possible way. There's a wave of paranoia gnawing away through this industrial synth effort from All Buttons In. A tense atmosphere born through beats that whip at you through the headphones and a deep, deep bass that constantly buzzes and intertwines itself with the bleepy leads. A complex but worthwhile listen.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suncastle
"Monster With 21 Faces" really has to be heard to be believed. A true journey in sound. Classical elements clash with modern electronics to create, pardon the pun, a monster. Suncastle seems like a producer who values his experimental side and this track takes things to the perfect level of the experimental genre. It glides along with ease, never once feeling disjointed. The further you listen the deeper you fall into it's charm. You can grab it as part of the most recent Mangled Music compilation release.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Volume 5 of our various artists compilation, featuring music from all of the artists featured here, is available on our bandcamp or below.

In The Loop : Episode 20
In The Loop casts an eye and an ear on the latest sounds from some of our roster. This particular post focuses on the sounds of Dark Fidelity HiFi, Subsequent, Oco, SlowDeepBreath and Kure.
We start by checking in on Dutch producer, Subsequent. The experienced head is all set to take the helm for his second Bricolage podcast next month. Check out his November 2015 podcast on our mixcloud. His most recent upload to Soundcloud is a blast from the past. The track "Chilled Moods" was released on Berlin label "nonine recordings" back in 2008. Exquisite guitars , trip hop beats and blissful vocals ensure the track does exactly what it says on the tin.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rick Jones aka Dark Fidelity HiFi is a busy man. Always on the go creatively, making his own tunes as well as remixing others. One of his most recent reworks was of the Belial Pelegrim track "Starless". The original is a stellar piece of off kilter electronica and key work. DFHF adds his own spin with a more glitch style base whilst adding even more spruce to the already melodic track with some class pads. Listen to both tracks below.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SlowDeepBreath is known for his breathtaking soundscapes and his latest offering "The Little Satellite" more than hits that mark. The ability to make the perfect ambient, chill out zone is harder than a lot of people think but SDB makes it seem effortless. Calming drones and expressive synths combine to create the perfect piece of space ambience.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Danish ambient enthusiast, Kure, is carefully sculpting away at crafting his own unique sound and "Echo Park" is just one of many playful, melodic numbers that the young producer has been generating recently.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Oco' just recently released his "Warmth" EP on fellow Glasgow stable he Umbrella Collective. It's three tracks of downtempo electronica with Oco's knack for songwriting shining through and providing a beautiful surface for guest vocals from some of his friends. For us, "Let Me Talk" is the stand out track with it's deep sounds, manipulated vocals and unique rhythm. Check out the EP below and grab a download.

In The Loop : Episode 19
In The Loop Episode 19 takes a look at what some of the artists we've released through the label have been upto recently.
First we turn our attention to serial beat maker, Lo-Jacker. His most recent uploads include a phenomenal remix of the HEALTH track "Crusher" that gets the complete Lo-Jacker make over. There's also new track "Infinite Latitude" with it's hypnotic beat and swirling pads and to round it off, the track "In Media Res" that was written for Piano Day 2017. Listen to them all below.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since their "Fifteen Minutes Of Fame" release back in October, 'futurendeavours' have kept their collective production head quite low. There's more in the pipeline coming soon but for now wrap your ears round the skittering drums and dubby groove of "Beatroot".
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next few weeks will see the release of two International Debris albums, "Myosphere" and "Seltrac" on No Problema Tapes and Third Kind Records, respectively.
Listen exclusively below to "Grotesk" from the Seltrac release and also another recent upload, the beautiful and haunting "Rexta".
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The latest Sunn Boo sounds are as raw and hard hitting as ever,
The demo of "6 Dogs Against Me" is a sneak preview of the bulky techno that the young Frenchman has been building away at.
Meanwhile, "ra-w line" provides a more melodic line of work with a slightly spiritual edge.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"True Devotion" sees Bedless Bones cast her spell by conjuring up a powerful and stirring piece of emotive darkwave. Allowing her vocals to soar over an intriguing concoction of sounds.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Oscilloscope never disappoints and his latest uploads are yet more proof of his finger drumming genius and knack for supplying weird, glossy, acidic sound patterns. Check out "When You Draw" and "Warm Calm" below.

Bricolage alumni, Bloempot, released his debut 12" (For The Deaf) on the Disposable Commodities label last month.
" Prepare to enter an all-devouring tornado of dissonant machine rumblings, well-rounded melody and thunderous percussions billowing out in toxic black smokes"

In The Loop : Episode 18
Episode 18 of "In The Loop" is long overdue and takes a look back at what the artists from our VA Volume 3 compilation have been upto. The compilation was a popular, eclectic, all Scottish affair.
First up is a brand new track from "...From The Benthic Zone". It's a psychedelic, trippy number laced with intelligent percussion and evolving layers of glitchy sounds and effects. There's a lot going on but it never gets too muddled.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Alpha Skies most recent offering from last month is a peculiar and interesting number. "Palomar" veers in between remnants of funk and jazz with smooth guitar licks serenading their way over a very breakbeat like structure. It's melodic, experimental electronic music in it's element.
--------------------------------------------------------------
The latest Nova Noma production is a blissed out, soothing ambient piano led piece. "Sleepyhead" starts off with a beautiful piano and some chirping birds before some well placed downtempo beats soon join the fray. Look out for a new EP/album coming later in the year.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dreamland Fantasy recently uploaded his submission for the Piano Soundboard Movie Scoring Challenge from late last year. The process was as follows "We were given a selection of short videos with the sound removed and had to compose a piano soundtrack for the one selected".
This short piece shows off the impressive piano range that Dreamland Fantasy possesses.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Warm house with a tropical flow is the name of the game on the new Night Time Bassline EP "Sanity Before Vanity". All the standard NTB elements are there, upbeat melodies, solid kicks and cosy chords. You can grab the full EP here.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The First World" from No!z has a real Eastern flavour at its core. It's another cinematic offering from the Glasgow based Spanish producer. Full of enticing sounds and developing drums.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Oco is known for downtempo gems and "Let Me Talk" falls perfectly into that category. A slow burning melodious number that picks up the pace half way through with some almost tribal beats working their way into the equation.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Crae's output over the last 6 months has seen a solid body of work makes it way online. Off the back of his "Injection" EP release on Bricolage, comes another new thumper with a melodic spacey vibe running through out. "Magnetikz" is moody, mean, dramatic techno.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Willy continues sculpting his own brand of dark electronic music on "Jers". A powerful, no frills techno banger. There's an almost militaristic edge to the drums as they plough their way through the speakers. Hopefully there's more new sounds on the way soon from the young, Edinburgh native.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"starocean777" from Gregor Garnutsi/Upstanding Monk sees the experimentalist explore the farthest reaches of the galaxy and he's invited you along for the ride. A pulsing beat amid an array of cosmic sounds soon gives way to an ambient implosion. An intriguing composition to say the least.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the subject of intriguing compositions......the undefinable Swedgy Bliker returned late last year with the demented "DIC". A melting pot of off beat electronics that never sits still. It'll either puzzle your brain or make it dance. Both are positive!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Leit Motif released his "Till We Have Faces" EP on Bricolage last November. It was three all out analogue ambient creations. His newest offering is a bubbly electronic effort that sees him come together with Bricolage founder Fragile X on "A-maireach bi e nas fhearr" which translates as "Tomorrow Will Be Better" in Scottish Gaelic. It's a slightly melancholic yet optimistic number that grows and grows into a melodic outpouring before fading out to nothing.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Replicators latest venture is "Skin Tight" where he puts his smooth word play over the top of the "CVRL" track of the same name. It's unconventional hip hop with a distinctive ambient under current.
