Menopausal Hound Dog "Audible Smote" (bc033)

Today we’re proud to officially welcome the Menopausal Hound Dog to Bricolage.

Over the years, the Manchester based producer, has carefully sculpted his own take on experimental music under various aliases but returns to the MHD pseudonym for his debut on Bricolage.

“Audible Smote” is 4 tracks of playful yet angular electronics that may at first seem minimal but on closer inspection are layered with lots of tiny details jostling for your listening attention. It gently glides along the mellow side of the spectrum but the unusual sounds, arrangements and progression keep things more than interesting throughout. Glitchy, understated percussion, idiosyncratic melodic elements and an ear for unique tonal textures set the mood of “Audible Smote” from the offset and make it an essential addition to our back catalogue here at Bricolage.

Are Friends Eclectic?

You may remember, back in December, that we had a very special podcast curated and mixed by the sonic wizard, Belial Pelegrim. The 75 minute session was full to the brim of colourful, abstract and daringly eclectic sounds. Almost every single piece of music featured was written specifically for the special broadcast when Belial handpicked some of his favourite artists and asked them to contribute their own piece to the musical puzzle. The result was a fantastic mixtape of genre bending tracks that click together perfectly. With mainly purely exclusive music included, the intention was always to have the podcast available, not only for listeners consumption, but also as a memorabilia item of sorts. So with that in mind, Belial started the manufacturing process for "Rainbowgrams", a compilation CD that documents all of the music included in the podcast.

The physical will be available through a limited edition release on bandcamp from the 26th of February with all proceeds from any sales going to the ASPCA. Full tracklisting info below.

Introducing : Menopausal Hound Dog

We’re delighted to reveal that on the 26th of February we’ll be releasing an EP from the mysterious Menopausal Hound Dog.
Fresh and rejuvenated from a 2017 vinyl release on Venderstrooik and a split EP on Vaatican Records, the Manchester based producer is set to unveil a 4 track EP, “Audible Smote”, on Bricolage at the end of the month.
If you want a feel for the abstract electronic worlds at the fingertips of MHD then tune into the special mix for Loose Lips from last summer.

"Menopausal Hound Dog hails from the black pudding epicentre of Lancashire, England. During the time of his earlier bands, he found performance a drag but that he loved to produce.

This set in motion a hearty passion for DIY and before long, he had a small collection of gear and machines, recording tunes from home for friends and family.

Eventually he discovered soundcloud and began releasing there, finding encouragement and support from the online DIY community."

Check out some older MHD material below and prepare yourself for lots more over the coming weeks....

This weekend we'll be revealing an A/V for one of the tracks from the upcoming EP on our YouTube channel. Stay tuned......

Bricolage Podcast #30 : Rain

Our February podcast sees revered selector, Rain, return for his second Bricolage podcast. In March last year we got a selection of some of his finest DnB favourites and this time out we’re being given an insight into his quieter side with some ethereal ambient soundscapes as he scours his massive music collection for some deep and resonant tracks that make for an hour of celestial storytelling through sound.

As always you can listen to the podcast below or at our Mixcloud.

In The Loop : Episode 26

It's been a while since our last ITL so we're starting off February with a new episode that takes a look at what a few artists on the roster have been up to recently.

THE OSCILLOSCOPE

Some "new" old material has surfaced on The Oscilloscope page as the Swiss based producer changes pace from his usual acid sound and revisits a gentler sound with some ambient material. There's plans for a conceptual release in the works so stay tuned to his account for more details soon.

-------------------------------------------------------------

BLUE NOTES

Fresh from his Tetrahedron album release on Bricolage at the end of last year, the young Glaswegian has kept his foot on the production pedal and continued to provide some excellent tracks for his followers. The latest offering being "Mnemonics". An atmospheric piece with some class ping pong style percussion littered throughout.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUBSEQUENT

"Revival of Interest" is a work in progress from the Dutch musician that is driven along by a strange, bubbling, melody, warped vocal, crisp, clean beats and a rumbling, sparse bassline.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BELIAL PELEGRIM

The ever prolific Californian is always at the forefront of consistency and never disappoints with his eclectic skills. Newest track "And The Sun Went Out In The Sky" is a prime example of his ability to carve out soaring ambient soundscapes alongside a tight backbone of experimental elements.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUNCASTLE

"Deep Archer" is the first track from an upcoming Suncastle LP on Triplicate Records. . It's a warm breeze of slightly wonky electronica. Upbeat basslines and fluttering melodies supply the depth in a superb all rounder that gives an insight what to expect when the release comes around. Free DL so no excuses not to dig in.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ARRAN TRAX

To round off the episode we have a sprawling acid-electro hybrid gem from Arran Trax. Building off the base of an almost tribal rhythm it slowly grows and grows into a monster of a tune that never sits still. There's a sweet melodic break halfway through that pops up to say hello before it gives way to the return of sonic chaos. "Morgenlicht" is up there with my own personal favourites from the, Hamburg based, Scottish producer and I'm delighted to reveal that we've started dialogue on a Bricolage EP from the man himself over summer. Expect more acid....
